Why we ask for your SS or IRS Number.

Matshop is located in Canada and normally international shipping rates would apply to all orders. In order to make our shipping rates and times competitive, we bulk-ship each day's orders across the border to Blaine, Washington where they are distributed on to the appropriate destination in a timely and efficient manner. For this reason, you are only ever charged for shipping from Washington State. Since our bulk shipments collectively reach a value of over $2000, we are required to provide a Social Security or IRS Tax number for the ultimate destination of each parcel. We respect that it is not always an option to give out your number. We would like to remind you that privacy laws in Canada are among the strictest in the world and we take pride in our security of your information. If you do not wish to have your number stored in our database, we would be happy to erase the information after each order has shipped.

As another option, we can provide international shipping via UPS Standard which requires no identification number. At this time this option is not available on our website; however, please call us and our Customer Service Representatives will be able to quickly provide you with a shipping estimate. On average UPS Standard is more expensive and duties may be applied to your package upon receipt.
